Very Kind Review from Tony Clayton-Lea of The Irish Times....
Kildare musician and songwriter Col Patterson previously spent time in the rock music trenches with The Vinylheads, a nifty enough band who released an album, Kicks, a few years ago but has since split up. Hangover Moon is Patterson in a solo capacity, and it’s a much more private experience, as the songs touch on acutely personal topics (including loss, injustice, love, mental health, family). The narrative load, however, is lessened somewhat by a collection of remarkably poised, crisp and light-fingered tunes that will have you whistling away without permission. There are many highlights, including Angels on the Wave, Woodshed, Hard to Believe, the title track and Big Lie World, each of which have a sunburst pop finish that belies their sober, saying-it-like-it-is lyrics.
'The songs are being well received, thankfully:
Huge thanks due to Rte Radio 1 DJs for their support on John Creedons Show, Lilian Smith's Saturday Morning show and Late Date with Cathal Murray.
The next song out on Spotify/ITunes before the Album release will be "Hard To Believe", a Track about how the emotions of a break-up can linger and how some relationships never cease to haunt the old heart. It was already featured on the BBC at local level ( Coventry) and on Rte Radio One.
"Hard to Believe" is out on Spotify and ITunes from Friday July 7th.
"Hangover Moon" The Album is Out from Friday August 4th.
How's it Going? Good I hope!
I have been trying to finish a second bunch of songs- This year's been a struggle with periods of feeling alright and then periods of the dreaded black moods. But, with the help of my friends in JAM Studios in Meath, Martin and Andrew Quinn, I am nearly there. Two legends and great to record with. Couldn't do enough for me. World class!
There will be 10 new tracks- I had more in mind but these fit together well enough, I think :).
I had a track called "Hangover Moon" written for quite a while and the others are newly conceived. The tracks are about the state of the world, love, loss & insecurity.
I don't know how I can play these live just now- maybe in time i'll be confident again to do that. Right now I hardly leave the house anymore. But this writing songs stuff is something I can do. Music can heal the soul a bit as they say.
Album prob July 2017. Here comes the Summer :)
I have promised myself that i will update this website a bit more often-i apologise to you clever folks who check on it that i have neglected your needs :)...
It's been a funny few weeks- i was featured/asked by Joe.ie to put down a few thoughts re a One Punch assault- i was in the wrong place at the wrong time many New years ago and unfortunately, I was coward punched from behind by a randomer while i was out with family-it caused a lot of mental issues with me to this day so i guess putting stuff down was a chance for me to bookmark it and hopefully move onwards.
I'm trying to get some new tunes together for another album-it'll be cheap and cheerful, but hopefully you will like them. I'm trying to get my confidence and health in order to perhaps play these live at some point, fingers crossed. It's a longshot, but let's work on it!!
I will put up some piano tunes or vids up here as i go, when the mood and the wind takes me. Col xxx
Hi-New single "FISH" reflects my love for all things Synth-Pop from the 80s-
It's a fun track but with a message about the treatment of our Oceans.
Hope you like-Out 18th July 2016 on Spotify and iTunes. x
A Huge thank you to all the friends fans and Family(all the F's) who took time to listen to , encourage and even buy the music-it's very heartening!
To all the DJs who played whether local or national radio -thanks a million.
Happy Christmas and Peace to all for 2016 x col
